Infrared saunas have been gaining popularity in recent years as a natural and effective way to promote health and wellness. Unlike traditional saunas that use steam to heat the body, infrared saunas use infrared light to penetrate deeply into the skin and tissues, providing a range of benefits for both physical and mental health. I decided to use a Sunlighten Infrared Sauna 3-5 days a week for an entire month and here is my take on the benefits!
One of the most notable benefits of infrared sauna use is its ability to promote relaxation and reduce stress. The heat from the sauna can help to increase circulation and release endorphins, providing a calming effect on the body and mind. This can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with anxiety, depression, or other stress-related conditions. This is definitely something most people will notice right away, the recharge you feel after using an infrared sauna. I personally enjoy the sauna for this benefit because it is something you can feel and notice during the session. Especially with the light therapy options.
In addition to its stress-reducing benefits, infrared sauna use can also be helpful for promoting pain relief and reducing inflammation. The deep heat from the sauna can penetrate deeply into the body's tissues, helping to relieve muscle and joint pain associated with conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia. It can also help to reduce inflammation in the body, which can contribute to a range of chronic health conditions. If you like to workout, like me, infrared sauna use is ideal for keeping your body feeling great. I also suffer from joint pain and rarely complain about it anymore!
Another benefit of infrared sauna use is its ability to promote detoxification. Sweating is one of the body's natural mechanisms for eliminating toxins and impurities, and infrared saunas can help to stimulate sweating and aid in the elimination of these harmful substances from the body. This can be particularly beneficial for those who have been exposed to environmental pollutants or heavy metals. Since I just the sauna regularly, it takes it reaching 130+ degrees for me to really start to sweat. But once I do, the flood gates open and it feels great releasing those toxins from your body.
Regular use of an infrared sauna can also have a positive impact on cardiovascular health. The heat from the sauna can help to increase circulation and reduce blood pressure, which can lower the risk of heart disease and stroke. It can also help to improve cholesterol levels and overall heart health.
In addition to its physical benefits, infrared sauna use can also have a positive impact on mental health and well-being. Regular use of the sauna can promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve sleep quality, leading to improved overall mood and mental health. I personally suffer from Hypothyroidism, which causes my heart to have irregular beats. Ever since I started using the infrared sauna, I have noticed that I rarely wake up in the night anymore with it beating out of control. My racing heart is definitely always been a health concern of mine, so I'm hoping continued use will help me long term. My dad also suffered from a stroke this time last year, and he has been using it regularly as well to help him with his blood pressure. However, prevention is key!
Another benefit of infrared sauna use is its potential to improve skin health and appearance. The heat from the sauna can help to increase circulation to the skin, which can promote cellular regeneration and improve skin tone and texture. It can also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as alleviate skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis. I absolutely love using the infrared sauna for this reason! Ever since I started using it regularly I get compliments on my skin all of the time! I can for sure see a difference in it's appearance. Keeping young, one sweat session at a time!
In addition, infrared saunas can be a helpful tool for weight loss and management. The heat from the sauna can help to increase metabolism and burn calories, which can aid in weight loss efforts. It can also be helpful for reducing the appearance of cellulite and promoting overall body contouring.
Regular use of an infrared sauna may also be beneficial for immune system function. Some research suggests that the deep heat from the sauna can increase the production of white blood cells, which can help to boost immunity and reduce the risk of illness and infection. This is another one of the biggest benefits I have noticed. It is absolutely helping me with my weight loss journey! The more consistent I was with using the infrared sauna, the more weight came off. It has also helped my stomach slim down. I'm not sure if it's actually burning fat or if it's just not carrying around all the water weight. But it is nice having my clothes fit better.
Furthermore, some research suggests that infrared saunas may help to reduce inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation has been linked to a range of health issues, including arthritis, heart disease, and cancer. By reducing inflammation, infrared saunas may help to promote better overall health and reduce the risk of chronic disease. This is a benefit that is obviously hard to know if you're actually getting or not. But my thought process has become, it's better to be proactive then wait until something happens! If spending 30 minutes 3-4 times a week in an infrared sauna can help with these things, then why not do it.
Infrared saunas may also be helpful for individuals with chronic pain conditions. The deep heat generated by the sauna can help to reduce pain and stiffness in the muscles and joints, making it a potentially useful tool for individuals with conditions such as fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. This is somewhat similar to what was discussed before, but I can definitely tell a difference in my joints. I suffer from wrist pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, (entire body pain because I'm just getting old which is fun). But one thing I've learned on my fitness journey is that these are all things that you don't have to suffer from. Stronger bodies equal less pain, that combined with regular use of the infrared sauna can help to eliminate these pains from our lives. Once again, why wouldn't I just spend the 30 minutes relaxing in an infrared sauna to see if this can help me long term.
In conclusion, infrared saunas offer a wide range of potential benefits for physical and mental health. From supporting detoxification and reducing inflammation to relieving pain and promoting relaxation, regular use of an infrared sauna can be a powerful tool for improving overall health and well-being. Whether you're looking to manage chronic pain, reduce stress, or simply feel rejuvenated, an infrared sauna may be a valuable addition to your self-care routine. Infrared saunas can be a powerful tool for overall health and wellness maintenance. Regular use of the sauna can help to promote relaxation and reduce stress, which can contribute to improved overall health and well-being. It can also be helpful for promoting healthy sleep patterns, reducing fatigue, and improving overall energy levels. My takeaway from using the infrared sauna 3-5 times a week for an entire month was that it really seemed to help with a wide variety of things. You absolutely will feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and lighter (from all the sweat leaving your body!) when you finish a session. The more you use it the more benefits you will get from it. It's like taking a vitamin, you may not see the effects it's having on your body and overall health, but they're taking place. There are so many things we now know we can be doing to take care of ourselves and possibly prevent illness and infrared heat therapy is definitely one of these things. I would for sure recommend anyone use it, and it's even good for kids. Our kids do weekly sessions and absolutely love it! You will never regret taking care of your body and investing in your health! I highly recommend adding an infrared sauna into your routine.
